Five Ways to Get Motivated

Ah yes, spring is in the air. The grass is green, the flowers are blooming, and you're, well, still stuck in hibernation mode. Not to worry—we've got five great ways to get you motivated and keep you moving.

Seeds of Motivation
If April showers bring May flowers, then May flowers bring yard work. This season, get outside and pull those weeds, plant some flowers, and make your yard shine. You'll work muscles you didn't even know you had, get some much-needed fresh air, and have some great curb appeal to show for it.

Work It Out
When you sit at a desk all day, it's easy to pick up the phone or send an email to a coworker sitting yards away. Don't give in to the temptation! Make it a point to take the stairs and walk to someone's desk when you feel the urge to send him or her an instant message. You'll burn more calories without ever breaking a sweat.

Spring-cleaning
Cleaning can burn some serious calories. Lugging around the vacuum, pulling the spring clothes to the front of the closet, and digging your outdoor toys from the garage are all great ways to get moving. Plus, finishing a task—even a small one—gives you a great sense of accomplishment. So, next time you feel your inner couch potato start to take hold, start cleaning.

Ready to Run
Spring is one of the best seasons for racing. Even if you've never participated in a race before, there's no need to be intimidated. There are races for any ability and every distance. Whether you're working towards a mile fun-run, a 5K walk, or even a marathon, you have a reason to get moving. The best part? Finishing your race will give you a great feeling of accomplishment. Nothing is more motivating than that.

Get Outside
As spring comes into bloom, the weather outside gets nicer and nicer. That means you have fewer and fewer excuses to stay inside. Instead of plunking down in front of the tube, take the dog for a walk, go for a bike ride, or visit the park. Whatever you do, just get outside. Fresh air can work wonders for your well-being.
