Four Easy Ways to Find Balance

When you're juggling work and family, it's easy for life to feel like a never-ending marathon. Between work, errands, and after-school activities, it's no wonder you feel frayed at the edges. Try these four quick tips for achieving balance—and nurturing your own health and well-being.

Lunchtime Laps
Think you have no time to exercise? Gather up a few coworkers and create a lunchtime walking crew. Even if you only have 15 minutes, you can make a few turns around the office or trips up and down the stairs. Head outside when time and weather allow. It's a stress-busting energy booster your body—and mind—will appreciate.

Snacks for Adults
You wouldn't take the kids to the park without packing a few snacks, so it's only fair to give yourself the same consideration. Stock up on quick, healthy foods the next time you're at the grocery store. Nuts, trail mix, fresh fruit, and whole-grain crackers are great on-the-go options. Stash these snacks in your desk, purse, and car to head off hunger pangs before you're tempted by junk food.

Mind-Boosting Commute
There might not be time to soak in the tub with a good book, but you can catch up on your "reading" in the car. Check out books on CD from the local library or download a podcast to your iPod. Going on a family road trip? Choose a kid-friendly option and discuss as a group when the story ends.

Make a Date
When it comes to time with the kids, quality can be just as important as quantity. Try setting up a date to spend one-on-one time with your children. Mark the date on the calendar and opt for a low-key activity you'll both enjoy. You might take an hour on Saturday afternoon to enjoy an ice-cream cone, play in the park, or just walk around the neighborhood. You'll both come away feeling renewed.
