Charles Fleischmann managed a distillery in Austria where he produced spirits and yeast. In 1865, Fleischmann came to the United States but was disappointed in the quality of American bread. He introduced his yeast to bakers, and it eventually became a standard in the baking industry. Many years later, in the 1960s, the Fleischmann brand introduced the perfect bread topper—the first margarine made from 100% corn oil.
