Orville Redenbacher got an early start in the popcorn business. As a kid, Orville earned his spending money popping and selling popcorn he grew on the family farm in Indiana. He spent decades developing a corn hybrid unlike any other. Orville and his business partner, Charlie Bowman, created and tested more than 40,000 varieties, until, after 40 years, they found the one that popped up light, fluffy, and tasty enough to meet their standards. After selling the popcorn under the RedBow label for awhile, they replaced the brand with Orville's name and likeness. Redenbacher continued as a brand spokesman, appearing in commercials until just a few years before his death in 1995.
